Nabeel Basheer

Flâneur, Runner, Printmaker

I like people, and I like being near them. I walk, and I look while I walk. I stop at tea shops. I run on the road in the mornings and cycle to work, and I take the bus or the train. When I get the chance, I go and lose myself in a city. I do not like crowds. I like being alone in one.

I am a student of science and I expect I always will be. I keep trying to understand art, which is slower going. I make things by hand, mostly screenprints. I cook for myself most days, but I love cooking in large batches, and more than that, I love watching people eat their fill.

I admire people who make things, and people who sell things. Local markets, community events, small self-help groups. Anyone whose work leaves others better off than it found them. I admire companies that do the same, that give people honest work and genuinely care for them.

My motto is still the one I learned as a scout. Be Prepared.
